Crafting together (November) and birthday swaps

Deze week zijn Jolinda en ik weer aan het miniaturen geweest. Ook konden we verjaardagscadeautjes uitwisselen. Met een verjaardag in september en de andere in oktober vinden we het leuk om ze op dezelfde knutselmiddag uit te wisselen.
Ik was dit jaar voor Jolinda voor een herfst thema gegaan en heb een vogelverschrikker en een herfstkrans gemaakt.
Als basis gebruikte ik de gedroogde wortels van een aardbeienplant, die erg breekbaar bleken te zijn. Een geduldwerkje dus :')

This week Jolinda and I have been working on miniatures again. We were also able to exchange birthday presents. With one having a birthday in September and the other in October, we like to exchange them on the same day.

This year I went for an autumn theme for Jolinda and made a scarecrow and an autumn wreath.

As a base I used the dried roots of a strawberry plant, which turned out to be very fragile. So it took a lot of patience :')

Inspiratie voor de vogelverschrikker kwam van Joann Swanson's blog. Ik vond het eindresultaat zo leuk dat ik er volgend jaar misschien wel een voor mezelf ga maken :)

Ook Jolinda had gekozen voor een herfst/natuur thema. Ze had twee miniaturen gemaakt die vast heel mooi in de cottage zullen staan. 

De wandversiering heeft onder andere hele kleine echte besjes, heel mooi. De hangende (advents)krans is ook prachtig, heel fragiel <3

Jolinda had also chosen an autumn and/or nature theme. She had made two miniatures that will look great in the cottage. 

The wall decoration includes very tiny real berries, very beautiful. The hanging (Advent) wreath is gorgeous and very fragile <3

Ik was vooraf in m'n doos met kerstminiaturen gedoken om te kijken waarmee ik die middag aan de slag kon gaan en kwam de onafgemaakte mantel van de kerstman tegen. Daar ben ik dus mee verder gegaan. Hopelijk is hij nog voor de kerst af en kan ik hem in de volgende blog laten zien ;)

I had delved into my box of Christmas miniatures beforehand to see what I could work on that afternoon and came across Santa's unfinished cloak. So I continued with that. Hopefully it will be finished before Christmas and I can show it in the next blog ;)

Crafting together (October) - Finding Mrs. Santa again + a swap

Last week we've been crafting together again. It hadn't occurred to me that it'd been my birthday the week before, but Jolinda obviously hadn't forgotten and had made several Fimo vegetables for me. Very nice! A basket with cucumbers and aubergines and a board with sliced ​​onions, with the rings were visible due to the the transparent clay.
I'm not sure whether they will end up in the cottage or the Italian trattoria, but it will fit well anyway :)

Afgelopen week hebben we weer samen geknutseld. Ik had er niet meer bij stil gestaan dat ik de week ervoor jarig was geweest, maar Jolinda was het natuurlijk niet vergeten en had verschillende groenten van Fimo voor me gemaakt. Heel erg leuk! Een mand met komkommers en aubergines en een plankje met gesneden uien waar de ringen door de transparante klei heel mooi zichtbaar waren.
Of ze in de cottage of de Italiaanse trattoria terechtkomen weet ik nog niet, maar het gaat sowieso goed passen :)

We'd agreed to work with Balsa this month instead of clay.

However, it turned out that Jolinda didn't have much inspiration for woodworking and decided to continue with her Santa Claus. I thought that was a very nice idea, so I decided to look for my Mrs. Claus again.

This is how I found her in the box of miniature Christmas items. Apparently I was a little further along than I remembered ;)

Voor de verandering hadden we afgesproken deze maand weer eens met Balsa te werken.
Jolinda bleek daar echter toch niet veel inspiratie voor te hebben en besloot verder te gaan met haar kerstman. Dat vond ik ook wel een erg leuk idee, dus besloot ik om mijn kerstvrouw weer op te zoeken.
Zo vond ik haar in de doos met miniatuurkerstspullen. Blijkbaar was ik al iets verder dan ik me herinnerde ;)

It took some time trying to pick up where we left off last year, but soon we were both sewing. I had a problem with the underskirt; it didn't show evenly under the top skirt, so I decided to sew both skirts together at the bottom. And I also made a start with the puff sleeves of the blouse.

Het koste wat tijd en gepuzzel voor we allebei weer wisten waar we precies gebleven waren, maar al snel zaten we beiden te naaien. Ik had een probleem dat de onderrok niet mooi gelijkmatig onder de bovenrok zichtbaar was, dus besloot ik ze aan de onderkant aan elkaar te naaien. Ook een begin gemaakt met de (pof)mouwen van de blouse.

The next day, however, I unpicked everything again because I wasn't happy with it; the skirt was puffed up and the back was 1 cm shorter than the front. Something I'd be able to hide with the apron, but no...it would still annoy me :)

De volgende dag heb ik echter alles weer losgetornd omdat ik niet tevreden was; de rok was opgebold en verder was de achterkant ook 1 cm korter dan de voorkant. Iets wat ik wel kon verbergen met de short die erover gaat, maar nee ... het zou me blijven ergeren :')

First I hemmed the skirt again so that the bottom was straight. I thought I'd still have to remove the whole underskirt, but to my surprise it turned out just right ;) I then noticed that the upper skirt was  about 5 cm wider at the bottom than the lower skirt; no wonder that it kept bulging ^^

In eerste instantie heb ik de rok opnieuw gezoomd zodat de onderkant gelijk hing. Ik dacht dat ik de onderrok er daarna uit zou moeten halen, maar tot mijn verrassing bleek die opeens precies goed te hangen ;) Wel zag ik opeens dat de bovenrok gewoon zo'n 5 cm wijder was aan de onderkant dan de onderrok, geen wonder dat die bleef opbollen ^^

So I cut away two pieces at the back of the top skirt and then sewed everything neatly back together.

Ik heb dus aan de achterzijde twee stukjes weggeknipt en daarna alles weer netjes aan elkaar genaaid.

The skirts now hang neatly but aren't attached, the front and back are the same length and although it is still a bit on the wide side, at least it doesn't bulge anymore so I'm satisfied.

Now I can continue with the blouse and the vest :)

De rokken zitten nog los van elkaar maar hangen nu netjes, de voor en achterzijde zijn even lang en hoewel hij nog steeds wat aan de wijde kant is, bolt hij in ieder geval niet meer dus ik ben tevreden.
Nu kan ik verder met de blouse en het hesje :)

A birthday swap, garlic and kitchen plans

It really feels like autumn now and I'm finally starting toget into miniature again ;)

So far, the past few months have been limited to the days when I crafted with Jolinda.

Last month, however, it was Jolinda's birthday and that meant making a swap :)

I'd seen a great workshop from SweetMiniDollHouse for making a plant with a Fimo cane and I wanted to try that. Funnily enough, Jolinda'd happened to watch that same workshop too, with the idea 'for later'.

I also tried making a tea box (a workshop by Anita Brouwer). That was - especially with Balsa - so delicate that I didn't even dare to stain it :'). At last made a leather shopping bag, which always comes in handy with all those vegetables Jolinda has made these last few months :)

Het is inmiddels echt herfst geworden en ik begin eindelijk weer wat knutselkriebels te krijgen ;)
Tot dusver bleef het de afgelopen maanden beperk tot de dagen dat ik samen met Jolinda knutselde.
Afgelopen maand moest ik echter wat eerder beginnen, want toen kwam de verjaardag van Jolinda eraan en dat betekende een swapje maken.

Ik had een geweldige workshop gezien van SweetMiniDollHouse voor het maken van een plant met een cane van Fimo en die wilde ik maken. Grappig genoeg had Jolinda diezelfde workshop toevallig ook bekeken, met het idee 'voor later'.
Nog geprobeerd er een theedoos bij te maken (een workshop van Anita Brouwer). Dat was - zeker met Balsa - zo priegelig dat ik het niet eens meer durfde te beitsen :'). Tenslotte nog een leren boodschappentas gemaakt, die komt altijd wel van pas met al die groente die Jolinda de laatste maanden gemaakt heeft :) 

We both made garlic last time using this tutorial from This Charming Stuff. My first ones turned out very large (I made a strand of that anyway). Finally found the right size and shape.

We hebben de vorige keer allebei knoflook gemaakt met behulp van deze tutorial van This Charming Stuff. De eerste vielen wel erg groot uit bij mij (daar heb ik toch ook een streng van gemaakt). Uiteindelijk de juiste maat en vorm gevonden.

Last weekend I got inspiration to move on with the cottage kitchen.

First I looked at my notes so that I could make a coherent whole with all those separate ideas. Decided that the wall lenght units that were on my to-do list didn't really fit the atmosphere I want to give my cottage. Instead, fewer furniture so I can fit a small kitchen island and a (fake)back door.

I made another map (the fourth and hopefully last version ^^);

Afgelopen weekend kreeg de inspiratie om eindelijk verder te gaan met de cottage keuken.
Eerst eens gekeken naar mijn aantekeningen zodat ik met al die losse ideeën een samenhangend geheel kan maken. Besloten dat de hele kastenwand die op m'n to-do-lijstje stond eigenlijk niet echt past bij de sfeer die ik m'n cottage wil geven. In plaats daarvan minder kasten en iets meer ruimte zodat er een klein keukeneiland en een achterdeur in de ruimte past.
Opnieuw een plattegrond gemaakt (de vierde en hopelijk laatste versie ^^);

Generally, I want to make the kitchen a bit lighter than the living room. With the ceiling beams stained in a lighter colour. A paneling of light wooden slats up to a height of one meter. A stone tiled floor in gray tones and white plastered walls and ceiling.

I made a mood board for myself with the images below from the internet.

In grote lijnen wil ik de keuken een wat lichter maken dan de woonkamer. Met de balken aan het plafond in een lichtere kleur gebeitst. Een lambrisering van licht houten latten tot een hoogte van 1 meter. Een stenen tegelvloer in grijze tinten en wit gestucte muren en plafond.

Ik heb voor mezelf een moodboard gemaakt met de onderstaande plaatjes van het internet.

There will also be a small table for two to three people, maybe a round one depending on how it turns out. And a third chair, which will have a wicker seat.

Finally I tried to draw a part of the kitchen, just for fun :')

Verder komt er nog een kleine tafel voor 2 a 3 personen, misschien een ronde afhankelijk hoe het uitpakt. En nog een derde stoel, die een rieten zitting krijgt.
Ten slotte heb ik voor de lol ook nog geprobeerd een deel van de keuken te tekenen :')

While I was drawing, I suddenly realized that I had never shared a photo of the AGA I made early this year, so here it is. Created using a tutorial from a book by Julie Warren.

Terwijl ik aan het tekenen was, realiseerde ik me opeens dat ik de foto van de AGA die ik begin dit jaar maakte, nooit gedeeld had, dus bij deze nog. Gemaakt met behulp van een tutorial uit een boek van Julie Warren.

So for now I can go ahead in the winter months. Hopefully I'll have the kitchen finished in the spring :)

Summer swap (garden shed) and a bit crafting together (July ^^)

I'm away behind with showing you the new stuff

While crafting together with Jolinda and Connie
I worked on a chives plant. Another diy-kit 
from De Hobbyshop I'd bought through OMINIS.

I finished it the next day. Not that realistic
up close, but cute nontheless :)

Connie had surprised Jolinda and me with a homemade present. We
told her she should save it for our birthday swaps, but she didn't
want to ;) She has made us both a sewing kit box and a monopoly
game. I'm sure Penny will love to play Monopoly with her mother ^^

Kim and I'd agreed to do a summerswap 
 and I started working on it in June.

It was a tutorial from the DHN magazine and
I've made it with Balsa and stained it teak.

Made a couple of new flower pots because I liked
 doing them and tried to make bigger ones.

The terracotta pots are one of my favourites.

Though I liked these pots and jug even more :)

I tried to vary with different colors and structures.

Another favourite. Love cobalt blue :)

I'd also made a couple of metal signs for Kim,
featuring Harry Potter shops.

Crafting together (June) and birthday swap

Yesterday we had our monthly crafting afternoon again. Extra special because we celebrated Connie's birthday, and also because Jenny (and her husband) from 't Tafereeltje dropped by.
Coffee, gifts and chatting ... oh my ;)

Jolinda had made this vase with gorgeous roses and some lovely baskets.

Since Connie is working on a take away pizzaria atm and I've got a Pinterest board with lot of ideas for my own Italian project, it wasn't hard to decided what to make for her.
I went with a miniature wine rack inspired by this one (lots of similar images online):

I drew a design and made it from Balsa. 

Gave up on the rack for the glasses after the 3rd attempt and realised without it it's possible to either set the wine rack on a counter or hang it on the wall ;)

I've found some Italian wine labels online and resized and printed them for the wine bottles I already had.

Next I'd made a cork screw inspirered by this tutorial by Daniela mini though I used a spring from a pen.

It look so pretty I'm sure I'll be making another one for the wall of my trattoria ;)

Same goes for the metal signs I've made. Google provided me with lots of very nice images when I looked for 'vintage poster Italy'. Credits for the tutorial on making these signs to Fabulously Small.

Finally I tried to create a drip candle wine bottle. My first attempt with Fimo Liquid didn't work out :')
The (plastic, yes I know) bottle started to melt very soon. Since I'm used to put Fimo with paper of light bulbs in the oven, I didn't think it would work on the bottle as well ^^
So in the end I used acrylic paint.

After Jenny and her husband had left, we started crafting. Connie and Jolinda both worked on making furniture. I've started with a kit for a bay leave and did some crocheting in between. More about that in the next blog though ;)
