Finished the Queen Anne wing chair for the living room

Though I haven't been able to many miniatures, I've finally finished the Queen Anne style upholstered wingback chair for the living room.

I'd showed you some w.i.p. photo's before, from what I had done in November;

were very helpful! You really should visit her
blog if you've never done before :)

Working on the front arm covers.

First time I made piping instead of
using cord. So much easier than I
thought it'd be, and I love the result!

I've made a depression in the cushion
to give it a 'sat in' look.

I've cut 3 mm of the legs I'd bought
before they were oak stained.

Cottage living room update

I knew I was behind with things but I hadn't realized how much :')
Apperently I'd started writing an update on the cottage in January but never finished that.
So without further ado, this is the progress on the cottage living room from January, mainly pictures ^^

I'd started making a comfy wing back chair back in December before we started working on Christmas miniatures. Once of these days I'll finish it (a)

I made new curtains because the first set I made was 1 cm too short.

I've put the glass stained deer from 'Glaskunst in Miniaturen' and the cute snapdragon Kim (Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo) made me, on display. Doesn't it look cosy? :)

The rod of the wall hanger Jolinda had made me, was made a bit darker to match the living room.

I made a bellows with this tutorial, using cartboard, thin leather and a metal bit I cut from jewelry.

I used the veneer slats from Bibian Angelique Miltkau for skirting boards.

I still had planned to do more furniture for the living room, but I had started to wonder if it wouldn't be too crammeded with more cabinets, a desk and chairs. So I decorated the room with the things I already had and quite liked it already :)

So, I've decided to keep it this way and only add the little decorative and personal items later on. I really like how it has turned out so far! Even though it's not as Weasley boho chic as I imagined at the start. But then, Bianca isn't Molly Weasley, is she? ;)

Next, an update on the bedroom, which I've started working on in February (a)

Craft of the Month: a new challenge

A few weeks ago Jolinda had told me about another (Dutch) FB group Actieve Poppenhuisforum where they organise a monthly challenge that sounded like fun. So I've joined the group and decided to give this month's challenge a shot :)

You were supposed to make something with the following 5 materials:
1. fabric
2. card board
3. beads
4. nails
5. wool

You had to pick at least three materials. Two were optional or could be changed in something else. Paint and glue was free to use.

The materials reminded me of a tutorial for an arm chair I'd seen in last month's doll house magazine (P&M no. 154). I knew Wil wanted to make that chair as well, so we met last sunday to craft :)

We'd each cut the different parts out of card
board before we met to save some time. It took
me an embarrassing amount of time to figure
out how to put them together. In my defence:
the instructions weren't anything but clear ;)

I had a great afternoon with Wil working on the
arm chair. We covered the card board parts
with fabric and managed to put almost
everything together before she left.

I chose a nice off white fabric for the
arm rest and the front ...

...and a deep red embroidery thread as trim.

Even without cushions and legs it already
looks very comfortable :)

No sewing thread allowed, so (textile) glue it is.

Three layers of fiberfill seemed comfy enough.

Checking the length before closing the cushion.

Made the legs from card board (3 layers),
painted and varnished them.

Et voila :) I'm glad I choose nails instead
of beads in the end.

Despite the touches of red, I think it looks
neutral enough to serve as a background for
most of my plant hangers and cross stitched
pillows. Especially since I can change the
floral cushions for some with plain fabric.

Matching kitchen chairs

After making the table I just couldn't resist to start with making chairs :)
My son advised me to have at least two chair that are the same instead of them all being different. More realistic that way, like there were originally four but two were replaced when they broke. 
Those two are the chairs, matching the table, from Julie Warren's book.  

The meassuring and cutting of the wood was very straining, since I can only do that correct (all those 2 and 3 mm strips) without my glasses and bending over till my nose almost hits the table top. That's why I only cut 1 or 2 pieces each time.

I wait extra long for the glue to dry, since it's so fragile. You can see, how they're going to be in the book, it's in the corner of the photo. 

It was fiddly doing the chair but I've become more patient then when I was when I started with miniatures a year ago. It really has more to do with being a perfectionist, I think.
I cut 7 chair seats before I was satisfied with the size (a)

After I finished making both chairs, I stained the seats. Also stained the top of the cabinet (3 layers xD) and varnished the table! The chairs will be painted another time, when I know better which colours I want for the kitchen.

I put the stool into the scene just for the photo but it might end up in the cottage as well.
